Anakin Mono is a futuresque style monospace font designed by opipik in 2013. The font is based off the character of Anakin Skywalker. Skywalker was a human male Jedi Knight of the Galactic Republic. Born on the desert planet of Tatooine in the Out Rim Territories, Skywalker had a strong affinity for the force and was prophesied to be the Chosen One of the Jedi Order. He was said to bring balance to the Force. However, he subsequently became Darth Vader, a Dark Lord of the Sith and one of cinema’s most well-known villains.
Skywalker’s backstory is outlined in the prequel trilogy of the Star Wars franchise. Within Episode I – The Phantom Menace (1999) he is first found by Jedi Master Qui-Gon Jinn and his apprentice Obi-Wan Kenobi on the desert planet of Tatooine after their ship is damaged by a Federation blockade. Qui-Gon senses a strong affinity for the Force within Skywalker and takes up Anakin as his new apprentice. Following Qui-Gon’s untimely death at the hands of Sith Lord Darth Maul, Obi-Wan Kenobi takes on the role of mentor to Skywalker.
Ten years later, during the plot of Episode II: Attack of the Clones (2002), Skywalker is still an apprentice to Obi-Wan. He has become more powerful over the years, but also arrogant. He believed that Obi-Wan was holding him back. He falls in love with Padmé Amidala after rescuing her from an assassination attempt and travels back with her to Naboo as her bodyguard. He later marries her in a secret ceremony.
Anakin’s story takes a darker turn during Episode III: Revenge of the Sith (2005). The film is set three years after the Attack of the Clones, when Anakin is now a Jedi Knight. After Padmé tells him she is pregnant, Anakin begins to have nightmares about Padmé dying in childbirth. After rescuing Senator Palatine from Separatist commander General Grievous, Palpatine appoints Anakin to the Jedi Council as his personal representative. It is later in the movie that Palpatine reveals to Anakin that he is actually the Sith Lord Dark Sidious and tells Anakin that only he can help him save Padmé’s life. Wanting to save Padmé’s life, Anakin pledges himself to the Sith, thus becoming Darth Vader.
Darth Vader then leads the 501st Legion to kill everyone in the Jedi Temple. He is eventually stopped by Obi-Wan on the volcanic planet Mustafar. After having his limbs severed by Obi-Wan, Lord Sidious saves Anakin and brings him to Corusant to be treated. It is there that he is given his black suit, made iconic by the original trilogy.
